The Grading tab is where lecturers input the final grade for each student in the course. This section provides tools to assist with grade calculation, sample uploads, and grade reporting to ensure a fair and transparent grading process.
1. Student List and Final Grade Entry
- The grading page displays a list of all enrolled students in the course.
- Next to each student, there is a dropdown menu allowing you to select a final grade for the course.
- Grade Range: 0 to 20 (whole numbers only).
- Select the appropriate grade for each student as their final course grade.
2. Compute Grade Button
- The Compute Grade button assists you in automatically calculating each student’s final grade.
- The system uses the weights and scores of all assessments (assignments, quizzes, exams, etc.) to compute a suggested final grade.
- You can review and adjust the computed grades before finalizing them.
- To use:
- Ensure all assessment grades are entered.
- Click Compute Grade.
- Review the suggested grades in the dropdowns.
- Make manual adjustments if necessary.
3. Grading Sample Section
- Click the “Grading sample” link or button to access this section.
- Here, you can upload sample works representing:
- The lowest grade
- A average grade
- The highest grade
- These samples help standardize grading and provide reference points for moderation or review.
- To upload:
- Click Grading sample.
- Use the upload buttons to select and upload files for each category (lowest, standard, highest).
- Save your uploads.
4. Report Section (Final Grade Statistics)
- The Report section provides statistics and insights on the final grades you have assigned.
- Accessible from the grading page, usually via a “Report” tab or button.
- Features include:
- Grade distribution chart (e.g., histogram or pie chart)
- Average, median, and standard deviation of final grades
- Number of students per grade
- Use this section to review grading trends and ensure fairness and consistency.
5. Submit Grade Button and Submission Check
- The Submit Grade button is used to finalize and submit the final grades for all students.
- Note: Clicking this button does not immediately submit the grades.
- Instead, it opens a review page that checks for any missing items or incomplete information required for submission (e.g., missing grades, unuploaded grading samples, etc.).
- If there are missing items, the Submit Grade button will display a triangle with an exclamation mark (⚠️), indicating that something needs attention before submission is allowed.
- Review the checklist on the review page, address any highlighted issues, and only then proceed to submit the grades.
This process helps ensure that all necessary information is complete and accurate before finalizing the grades.
Tip: Always double-check grades before submission. Use the grading samples and report statistics to maintain grading standards and transparency.
